How large is a 0.75 carat princess cut diamond?
I am trying to buy a diamond engagement ring online but I have no visual as to how big the centre diamond is. I can’t decide if I should upgrade to a 1ct centre, or if 0.75 is big enough. So my question is how big, in mm or inches, is the average diameter of a 0.75 carat PRINCESS cut diamond (I realize there is some variation). I just want a general idea. If you know how much bigger a 1 carat is too that would be great!

It really depends on how the stone is cut. I poorly cut 0.75 carat diamond will look larger on the top (one that is just cut to look bigger), but it won’t have nearly as much sparkle as a properly cut diamond that has a properly proportioned table and depth.
The best way to get a visual of the size of diamonds when looking on line is to get a good ruler and bank piece of paper out. When you look at a site like http://bluenile.com/, when looking at a specific diamond if give you the actual mm dimensions of each diamond. So use your ruler to carefully draw the square shape so you can see how large that would look.
I suggest you buy for the quality of cut, not how big it will look in the setting. If you buy a diamond that is cut to look larger, it won’t reflect light properly and it will be a dud. A properly “excellent” grade cut diamond will reflect nearly all light that enters it, make it sparkle like crazy! They are truly stunning attention cutters.
A 0.75 carat diamond that is cut poorly just to look closer to 1 carat might look a bit bigger on your finger, but it’s not going to bouncing light across the room like a smaller, but better quality cut diamond would.
